Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

The internship paper provides students with an opportunity to gain a supervised practical experience prior to entering the workplace and allows students to identify strengths and weaknesses via a reflective evaluation of their work.

  • Internships combine practical as well as academic supervision to help the student’s transition into the workplace.
  • Eligible students are responsible for finding an organisation that would be willing to supervise them as interns. The WSOMM396 paper convenor might help with suggestions and guidance.
  • A list of organisations that might be interested in hosting an intern is published on WIL and on Moodle.
  • Students will contact the potential internship host organisation in a professional and respectful manner and follow the paper resource on Moodle: A guide for finding and contacting the host organisation for internship placement; An example for a cover letter / email; a guide to the internship host; an example for a letter from the internship host; host mid-term evaluation forum and host final evaluation form.
  • The internship depends on approval by the paper convenor based on a job / project description signed by a representative of the internship host organisation. Students should use the WSOMM396 Application for approval of the host organisation form (on the course Moodle – resources).
  • By the end of week two (March 12) an internship host organisation should be agreed and the student able to work.
    • Please note: Until you have an approved host, no work will be accepted.
  • The student will work in the host organisation 80 to 110 hours within 8 to 12 weeks.
  • The host organisation will agree in advance to provide supervision and to submit to the paper convenor two evaluation reports on the intern’s work. The student is responsible for submitting to the course convenor an agreement form signed by the host of the internship.
  • The intern will submit over the semester four academic assignments reporting and reflecting on the progress and the contribution the intern has made.
  • The intern will sign a written commitment to keep confidential all information that belongs to the organisation.
  • In case of problems, it is the responsibility of the intern to involve the paper convenor immediately.
  • No credit can be given to work done by the student prior to signing in to WSOMM396.
